Module 1:Disc Disease - Mastering the Disc in Lower Back Pain

Be the expert on back pain. Learn simple to use protocols to diagnose, discuss and treat the conditions that represent the majority of your practice - the disc. The key to the evaluation and treatment of back pain is understanding that most back pain is the result of a sprain or weakness to the annular wall of the disc and that it's not something to be stretched out. The most effective exercises for a fast and full recovery are not general stretching and strengthening exercises, but specific disc-reducing exercises designed to correct disc bulges and take pressure off the sprained wall, so it can tighten up and heal. Core strengthening exercises, stretches to address mobility issues and postural/lifting/bending re-education are all important aspects of care, but all in the proper order. For any treatment to be successful, the specific structural problem, which is often a sprain to the annular wall of the disc, must be identified and corrected first. The clinical reasoning taught in this course will be guided by responses to end-range loading strategies, as well as the use of multiple baselines and guidelines to eliminate uncertainty and arrive at a structural specific diagnosis that leads to rational and extremely effective treatment approaches. Upon completion of this course, doctors will have a new set of diagnostic and treatment skills that can easily be implemented into practice the following morning.

Integrated patient centered care and current guidelines for chronic widespread pain conditions will be discussed as well as the evidence related to the perception of pain syndromes.
